Money raised funds supplemental teachers, educational and enrichment programs, facilities improvements and equipment and supplies for our classrooms. Each dollar raised will directly benefit the children at Harbor View.
Harbor View School is a prime example of a public elementary school made outstanding by parent, community and corporate involvement. Located in prestigious Corona del Mar, CA, with just under 400 students, Harbor View is a distinguished Blue Ribbon School which held the highest California Standard Test (“CST”) score in the Newport Mesa school district last year! (CA Ed. 2008-2009) This academic excellence is evidenced in both its test scores as well as the prepared, well-rounded students that leave here each June, fully ready for the educational challenges ahead.
However, the California public school system of today is a sharp contrast to that of twenty years ago. As children, we all enjoyed instruction in Physical Education, Art, Music, Science, Computer, Student Library, and Performing Arts as a part of the general curriculum. Due to the continued drastic cuts in state funding, these programs are no longer included in a California public education! It is this disparity that forces many parents to spend upwards of $15,000 a year on a private education for their child.
With a staunch commitment to providing a high-caliber education within the public school system, Harbor View parents take a different approach. The Parent Faculty Organization (“PFO”) is a non-profit entity that reaches out to parents, the community and corporations for tax-deductible fundraising support. These fundraising efforts are solely responsible for the supply of funds necessary to provide HV with supplemental teachers, educational programs, facilities improvements, and equipment and supplies for our classrooms. Without the monies raised each year for the PFO, students would not receive education in Music, Art, Science, Library, Computer Technology, Physical Education or Performing Arts such a drama and choir (which make up the Partners In Excellence (P.I.E.) program).
